Gifted Education
Patrick County Public Schools identifies gifted and talented students in the areas of General Intellectual Aptitude. A screening tool,
The Measures of Academic Progress
®
(MAP
®
),
is administered to all second graders annually.
The results of this assessment, along with other sources of data, are used to evaluate students for eligibility in the gifted and talented program. There is also a K-12 referral process through which parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, community members, or peers may nominate students for evaluation.
Gifted and talented students are served through differentiation of instruction in their classrooms. In addition, opportunities for activities are offered to gifted and talented students after school and during the summer.
